A filing under Chapter 7 stays on a credit report up to 10 years from the date of filing. There is nothing much that you can do to remove the bankruptcy information before those time periods expire; neither can you speed up the process. However, in a Chapter 7 case, it is possible to only take 2 to 3 years to rebuild your credit. Furthermore, if you think that the record is reported inaccurately, you can file an explanation stating the special circumstances leading to your bankruptcy, like illness or loss of job.
